What the Friends of the NCABLS Can Do for You

A Friendship Helps Everyone

Of course you’ll get that good feeling for donating your time, talent and treasure to a well-deserving organization. You’ll have the warm satisfaction of knowing your donations made a huge difference.

But there's more to what we offer than that.

Our Services

  • Speaker Bureau We can provide a dynamic speaker for your meetings, whether you are a group of elderly citizens facing vision loss or a band of business people seeking knowledge about what it means to be blind and how important reading is to those often disenfranchised from society. Communication is vital and we are happy to oblige your needs when we can.
  • Newsletters
Keep in touch with the blind community in North Carolina through the Tar Heel Talk newsletters. You’ll always know what’s on our minds and who is in charge of the Friends' funding and decision-making.
  • Advocacy
The Friends play a vital role in advocacy for NCABLS needs in the state legislature, through department heads and the governor’s office. Whenever literacy and the needs of the Library are on the budget cutting board, Friends board members are at the table, making the case for continued or expanded funding. While we are not a political action committee as such, the Friends are heard throughout state government.
  • Communication
In addition to the newsletters, as a member, you’ll have access to the inside scoop on Library matters and those issues that affect our community. As a Friends supporter, you will be among the first to know when changes are afoot or when we launch new initiatives.
  • Recognition
The Friends recognize our supporters in a myriad of ways. We promote our sponsors to our membership at events and through our active grapevine. Our volunteers are recognized at the annual Volunteer Recognition event. State and federal representatives know about your work and recognize your efforts with heartfelt thanks and certificates.

Support Literacy

Show your support through your participation in the Friends of the NCABLS. The Friends take your time, talent and treasure and turn it into one of the best literacy advocacy groups in the state. You can be proud of that.

Finally, remember our motto: That All May Read!
